The Mission of the Men’s Club of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church is to help make Christ and the Catholic Church the center of our lives by prayer, greater use of the Sacraments and good works. We assist the Pastor of the church with maintenance and protection of the church grounds, fixtures and equipment. We foster a spirit of fellowship, teamwork and brotherhood in the continued growth of our Parish Family. We accomplish these things by committing our time, talents, skills, personal resources, and by forging relationships throughout the church and the community at-large.

Updates on membership committee plans

The membership committee has become more aggressive in recruiting new members to carry on the legacy of faith established here at St. John the Baptist in the 1970's.  We need you: your time, your talent, your treasure, to maintain the physical plant of St. John!

We need fathers, sons and grandsons who can bring their skills to the organization, thereby increasing the quality of faith life for all future generations.  Events usually include frequent "family" events geared toward enticing youth to be a part of the overall mission of the Men's Club, socials, spiritual retreats and any project that helps to foster a greater sense of community among the parish at-large.

To join, click on the Membership Application just to the right of Mike the Tiger above and bring your application to the next Men's Club meeting, typically schedule as a dinner/meeting on the second Thursday of each month.  Call the parish office or speak with a Men's Club member and get involved.

Cub Scouts, Webelos and Boy Scouts have charters at St. John the Baptist. Have you joined yet?

The Boy Scouts of America is one of the nation's largest and most prominent values-based youth development organizations. The BSA provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness.

For an entire century, the BSA has helped build the future leaders of this country by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun. The Boy Scouts of America believes — and, through nearly a century of experience, knows — that helping youth is a key to building a more conscientious, responsible, and productive society.

St. John's Rosary Altar Society

- President, Martha Simmons

". . .to foster the Catholic religion among its members; to assist the Pastor; to care for the altar; to furnish and launder altar linens, priest’s vestments, etc.; to provide various articles/ supplies necessary for Mass and other devotional services; to decorate the church. . ."

The St. John’s Rosary Altar Society meets at St. John’s on the first Thursday of the month from September to June.  Meetings start at 10:00 and usually last about an hour or so, followed by a light lunch to which everyone is invited.  Members take turns furnishing the food for the lunch, as well as setting up for it and cleaning up afterwards.

The current officers of the St. John’s Rosary Altar Society for 2011-2012 and their contact information are listed below:

Martha Simmons - President - 654-4297

Cheryl Roberts – Vice President – 570-2327

Dora Cooper – Co-Secretary – 301-0242

Beverly Broussard – Co-Secretary – 654-5657

Joyce Monteilh – Treasurer – 236-6240

In addition to these officers, there are various committees with specific jobs to do, such as Bereavement, Candles, Courtesy, Decorations, Funerals, History/Publicity, Membership, Memorial Fund, Sacristans, Social, Telephone, and Weddings.  From time to time we also need seamstresses, cake bakers, church decorators, and “clean-uppers”.  If you are interested in working on any of these committees or just want to know more about them, please contact Martha Simmons and she’ll “sign you up!”

If anyone would like to join the Altar Society, simply send your name and address, along with $6.00 to Joyce Monteilh, Treasurer, at 1017 Hunters Run Avenue, Zachary, LA 70791.  You could also put it in an envelope marked “Altar Society” and drop it in the collection basket on Sunday.  Everyone is welcome, and remember, you don’t have to attend the first Thursday of the month meetings in order to be a member.  There are usually other activities throughout the year in which you can participate.

Our major Fall activity is the October Birthday Party for the residents of Lane Nursing Home who have birthdays in October.  We have been doing this for a long time and both the Altar Society members and the residents seem to enjoy it.  We entertain the residents by singing, serving refreshments, and giving gifts to the birthday honorees.  Everyone is invited.

Some Altar Society members also help with the St. Joseph’s Altar.  If you want to become involved, call Butch and Jeni-Su Cambre at 654-5311.  They are the chairmen of the altar this year.

We will be sponsoring our annual Easter Bake Sale on the Palm Sunday weekend and you are certainly welcome to bake something for the sale and help us sell it.  We will also be very involved in decorating the church for the various services during Advent, Christmas, Lent, Holy Week and Easter.  One of our responsibilities during the year is the reception following the Sacrament of Confirmation, which will be held during the Spring.  Ladies who are interested in helping with any of these activities should contact one of the officers for more details.  We always welcome volunteers!

Working as a sacristan is one of the jobs in the Altar Society that really brings us closer to God and his church.  Sacristans work as a team for one month of the year, fixing up the Altar, cleaning the linens and vessels, filling the holy water fonts, working with the candles, and any other chores that ensure that the Church and Altar are ready for the various services. If you are interested in being a sacristan, let us know and we’ll train you and put you on a team.

We look forward to hearing from a lot of you out there and welcome you to St. John’s Rosary Altar Society.

The Men's Club of Our Lady of the Assumption~

Continuing a Mission of Prayer started by George J. Charlet, Jr., some time ago, the Men's Club of Our Lady faithfully prays the Rosary and we encourage you to do the same, using the following format:

“SPECIAL INTENTION ROSARY”

OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH

SUNDAY – APRIL 5, 2009

SPONSORED BY THE MEN ’S CLUB

FIRST SUNDAY OF THE MONTH AT 8:30am--BEFORE MASS

<<please take this home with you and pray the Rosary daily>

===============================================================

PRAY FOR ALL OF OUR LEADERS IN ALL POSITIONS

THE SIGN OF THE CROSS--

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen

THE APOSTLES CREED--

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit; born of the Virgin Mary; suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, died, and was buried.  He descended into hell, the third day He arose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven; sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; the Holy Catholic Church; the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and life everlasting. Amen

THE OUR FATHER--

Our Father, Who art in heaven; hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. Amen

THREE HAIL MARYS--(to increase the virtues of FAITH, HOPE, and CHARITY OR LOVE)

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen

GLORY BE TO THE FATHER--

Glory be to the father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen

OH MY JESUS--

Oh my Jesus forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, lead all souls

to heaven, especially those in most need of thy mercy.
