July 1, 2013
To all OLA Religious Ed parents:
As most of you know, Wanda
Gawarecki, has “retired” as Director of Religious Ed at Our Lady of
Assumption Catholic Church, and I will be replacing her as of June 1st.
I expect this year to be educational for me as well as your children;
therefore, I ask for your patience and understanding during this
learning process.
Enclosed is a calendar of
important 2013-2014 Religious Ed dates, including classes and parent
meetings. Last year’s classes proved challenging in many areas, such as
classroom accommodations, due to the large number of students. You will
notice a MANDATORY parent and student meeting immediately after mass,
Sunday, August 11th in the parish hall to discuss with the
parents and students some of the changes we will be implementing to
alleviate those issues for the upcoming Religious Ed year. Because the
meeting is MANDATORY, your child(ren) will not be allowed to begin
Religious Ed classes if at least ONE PARENT is not in attendance at the
meeting.
It is also my intention to have
the parents of the students participate in Religious Ed activities such
as Adoration, reciting of the Rosary and Stations of the Cross during
Religious Ed class hours. Our children learn by examples set by us as
parents. If we are not willing to devote a portion of our time to the
Church, outside of mass, neither will our children. Enclosed is a list
of student families and their designated service times. If you are not
available to participate at your designated time, it is your
responsibility to find a substitute, or contact me for options.
Also, be reminded that 8th
and 9th graders are required to complete 4 service
hours in church activities, and 10th graders are required to
complete 8 service hours in church activities. Catholic school students
should remember to turn in their completed service hours to the
Religious Ed office. Forms are available in the OLA Religious Ed
office. There are many opportunities throughout the year for the
students to earn the required service hours.
Thank you for your time. Please
do not hesitate to contact me either by cell 225.278.6426, or email
manddplumbing@bellsouth.net if you have any questions, suggestions
or concerns. I look forward to the new adventures!
In Christ,
Denise Payne

“Sun Rock Kids Camp” was
the Program used during St. John's VBS.
Pictured is illustration
of Bible story of Jesus calling Peter to leave his fishing business and
“Come Follow Me.” VBS camp theme of Vacation Bible School (VBS), held
recently at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Zachary, LA, was the
relationship between Jesus and Peter, the first Roman Catholic pope in a
long line of leaders beginning with the call from Jesus 2000 years ago.
St. John VBS Director of Religious Education is Dorothy Kuhlman, and
Secretary is Susan Dixon.
Pastor Fr. Jeff Bayhi
signed “Apostle Creed” prayer copies for 4th through 6th
grade students during Friday, May 29, 2009 lesson, after he had spoken
with them about the succession of priests starting with St. Peter, the
first pope of the Catholic church. |

With boat paddle and
fishing net in hand, VBS teacher Dora Cooper and students role play in
the box boat as students load the net with imaginary fish caught. |

It was during lessons
when Counselors and students acted out each story, paddling the boat
Peter and Andrew had been in when Jesus first called Peter to be the
head of His Church, fishing when Jesus told Peter to recast his nets,
and into leaving fishing business to begin Jesus’ church. Students were
waves in the stormy sea when Jesus quieted the storm. Students
made crafts with a boat photo of each student taken by Theresa Zink.
|
During VBS, students rode ponies courtesy of Mary Ludie and Jessie
Baker, and Betty McLellon, who provided their horses. Games were
conducted under direction of Theresa Mondello. Crafts Chair was Janet
McClung. Singing Director was Donna Gremillion with the assistance of
her daughter Elaina Gremillion.
The title of the VBS was Sun Rock Kids Camp, “Sock it to me, Jesus.”
Scripture lessons were conducted by Dora Cooper with assistance of many
volunteer student and parent counselors. |

A woman was sharing information she had learned about another.
The priest said, "For penance, I want
you to go home, take a pillow up on your roof, cut it open
with a knife, and return here to me."
So the woman went home, took a pillow
off her bed, went up the fire escape, and stabbed the
pillow.
"Did you gut the pillow with the
knife?" he says. "Yes, father". "And what was the result?".
"Feathers, everywhere!" So the old priest told
her, "Now I want you to go back and
gather every last feather that flew out on the wind".
"Well", she said, "It can’t be done. I
don’t know where they went. The wind took them all over."
"And
that", he said, "is
GOSSIP." |
