Office of Youth Ministry

Welcome Lauren O'Neill !!!

New Director of Youth Ministry: St. John & Our Lady

I'm Lauren O’Neill and I’m from Baton Rouge. I graduated from LSU in 2003 and have spent a good chunk of that post-graduation time at Our Lady of Mercy teaching and doing youth ministry. I’m so excited to be here at St John and Our Lady.

Before the school year begins I’m busy here at the office creating a database so I can get to know as much about YOU and what you want to see come out of our parish’s youth ministry department.

If you have any questions for me, please feel free to email me at loneill@sjb-ola.org. Or feel free to stop in at my office (by the Religious Ed. office). I look forward to meeting everyone!

Registration information forms:

I’ve been mailing out registration forms lately. Some of you may have received them and some not and some of you might need more! If I’ve missed you or you need more, please pick some up on the bulletin board in the foyer.

You have one? It’s filled out? Awesome. Please return to it the parish office so I can grab it and add you.

Middle School

The Diocese is hosting their annual middle school/jr high retreat on Sept 27-29 at Camp Abbey in Covington, LA. This is just a little note for you to keep in mind that you 6th-8th graders now have plans that weekend. J

High school

On your information stuff, don’t forget to put a check next to the parts that mention the youth board. Remember, this is your group and I’m going to need your help. Otherwise, it’ll just be us hanging out eating Cheetos watching videos about cats doing silly things. Not really. Well, maybe…

But seriously, sign up.

Young Adults 18+

There’s a mission trip heading to Managua, Nicaragua! The dates for the trip are November 9-15th. If you need any more information, let me know!

For our youth and young adult ministries, we’re adopting the following at our patron saints:

St. John Bosco and St. Maria Goretti

“Who are these awesome saints?!,” you’re wondering. I’ll tell you next week.

Hey, 9th-to-12th Graders:

Be sure to check out the Y.M. Brag Boards (located next to R.E. Office).

These boards are put together by a small group of our youth and offer not only an inside look at

events/gatherings of the youth, but memories to keep!

After much expressed interest, they are now available for purchase. Photo sizes 4x6 to 8x10 are available with costs no more than $2.00 each. The current events featured are World Youth Day 2012 and the Jr. High St. Nicholas Party. Order forms are located by the boards and these two events will be available until the end of January.

To the Youth Ministry team who worked at the home of Cal and Dixie Sellers recently: Thank you guys

for the wonderful job done by all. Please convey my appreciation too one all, this was greatly appreciated

as it seems impossible to get anything done, so I just made up my mind to look and not see, now I can

look and see something very organized and beautiful, Gods own Country he made it all.
~Thanks again, Dixie

  I met him and I liked him~

  I liked him and I let him~

  I let him and I lost him~

Before you make a decision that could change your life forever, please talk to someone.  Talk to your parents. Talk to your teacher.  Talk to your priest.

Say NO because you KNOW.
