Sacraments

For those unfamiliar with the Catholic Church, the beauty of the church is inherent in the sacraments one receives as they move through the faith as well as the beauty found in the richness of the various services provided by the different offices within the church.

St. John the Baptist & Our Lady of the Assumption understand that for some, a learning curve may exist and that even the most ardent, frequent parishioners might be unaware of all that is available to them through our parishes. Thus, this section of the site is here to acquaint everyone to the Catholic faith of our beautiful and rich apostolic traditions, as well as to provide a guide as to how the church may serve your spiritual and sacramental needs.

First, of course, should be some clarification on the sacraments themselves. The seven Sacraments are as follows: Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist (Holy Communion), Confession (Reconciliation), Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders, and Matrimony. To paraphrase the writing of Saint Thomas Aquinas: the sacraments (except Holy Orders) have the potential to touch all stages of life. Indeed, when one thinks of the sacraments from a complete life cycle, they cover life "from the womb to the tomb." As such, while you grow in life, you will note that your sacramental journey bears resemblance between the stages of natural life and the stages of the spiritual life.
